Castellfollit de La Roca is situated on a basaltic cliff

The Spanish community of Castellfollit de La Roca is situated on a basaltic cliff that rises more than 50 metres high and spans a distance of nearly one kilometre. Since the town has been inhabited for more than a millennium, its mediaeval roots may still be seen in the town's tiny alleyways. Ramparts that fortified the town during the Spanish Civil War may be seen in the city centre. The dark, volcanic rock that acts as the town's pedestal is also used to construct a large number of homes and streets in the city centre.
