the real physician

For 50 years, Muhammad Mashali, a physician, provided absolutely free care to Egypt's most vulnerable individuals. In 2020, Mashali died away at the age of 76.

He worked in the clinic for 12 hours daily, seeing 30 to 50 patients. Every day, a crowd gathered in front of his ambulance, and on the street, he was frequently approached by those who sought his medical counsel. Dr. Muhammad Mashali never even owned a phone or a car. From his house to work, he walpoor.

After hearing about his tale, a wealthy individual offered him a car, an apartment, and $20,000. However, when his donor left Egypt a year later, he was informed that the doctor had purchased new medical supplies and helped underprivileged patients by selling his automobile. Muhammad Mashali gave the following explanation when he received his medical degree from Cairo Medical School in 1967:

"My father gave up his life so that I may pursue a career in medicine. I then made a vow to God that I would live a life of service to people of all cultures and religions, not take a penny from the poor.
