how many snow leopards are there in the wild

Twelve nations, including China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Russia, and Mongolia, are home to snow leopards.

Snow leopards have evolved to be well suited to the icy, desolate environment of their high-altitude habitat. The number of snow leopards in the wild is thought to be between 3,500 and 7,000, but no one is certain.

Their long tails help them balance and move quickly up and down the rocky, steep slopes of their habitats. Snow leopards typically encircle their faces with their tails during severe blizzards to stay warm. Because of this, the snow leopard possesses the longest tail among the cat families, growing to almost 1 m in length when an adult.
