In Ghana, a 90-year-old woman was murdered on the street after being suspected of witchcraft, and the civil society organisations are appealing to law enforcement for justice.
Akua Benteh, a 90-year-old woman, was reportedly beaten to death on Thursday after being accused of witchcraft and being responsible for certain unusual events that were impeding the development of the town
After the body of the deceased was taken by the local police for an autopsy and additional investigation, a statement from a civil society organisation allowed the police three days to make an arrest because the suspects' faces were clearly visible.
"This barbarous crime is a serious gender-based violence issue and cannot be condoned in this 21st century when Ghana is a signatory to several international agreements and protocols to protect the lives and dignity of every Ghanaian," they reportedly stated in the statement.
